“….and that’s why I want to transfer from Northeastern to UCLA.” I remember our conversation like it was yesterday. It was the summer of 2007, and Brittany and I were working together as camp counselors at the wonderful Redwood Camp in Santa Cruz, CA (well technically, Mount Hermon, CA…but close enough). Brittany had had a whirlwind of a time in Boston, (she even fit in the Boston Marathon between studying for classes!!!)…but for many reasons, she felt like God was closing this door, and she was praying He was going to open another. Thankfully, He did, and she successfully made the transfer from Northeastern to UCLA.
Unbeknownst to Brittany, a lovely fellow named Jordan from Kansas was also considering a school transfer. Jordan had completed some of his schooling at Kansas State, but several of life’s crazy twists and turns lead him out to sunny California. He didn’t quite have a specific plan, but he knew he wanted to study at UCLA, and he knew he would eventually get there.
Well, as it always is, God’s timing in this was perfect. Brittany and Jordan started classes at UCLA around the same time, and in the midst of the beauty and valor of it’s campus, they found each other and fell in love. They finished their undergrad at UCLA, and then both enrolled at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. (If you’ve never been to Pasadena, I highly recommend it…it’s gorgeous). As their relationship developed, they began talking about marriage, and over Thanksgiving this past November, Jordan asked Brittany to be his wife. Obviously, she said yes! 🙂
I was thrilled when Brittany asked me to come out and take their engagement photos. Not only would I get to reunite with my dear Salsa (camp name..hehe), but I would finally get to meet this man who had swept her off of her feet. As the three of us (well four actually, Jordan’s beautiful golden retriever Bri was a great assistant) wandered the campus of UCLA where they met, they retold the story of how they met, and it was so beautiful to hear their unique stories of how they ended up together. It was such a joy to be able to spend so much time with them for photos. We were able to hit so many beautiful locations, and I think the photos absolutely reflect their life together.
Brittany and Jordan, thank you so much for flying me out to be your photographer! It was an absolute honor. Here are a few of my favorites from our time together:
